I was just wondering, if you were to buy an American model camcorder and then use it say in Europe or Australasia, would it work OK?

I suppose you'd need a multi-system VCR (NTSC/PAL) but would it work otherwise? Just wondering if anyone knew.

Of course it would work. It's not like the air changes, affecting video signals or something.

    Umm...well yes
What I meant was more like would you need special (and therefore expensive) adapters to plug it into the wall? Some models in sony don't even come with a charger,so if you have to plug the actual camcorder into the wall to recharge it, there could be problems if its not 240Volts. Obviouldy it's just a piece of electronics and I could make it work somehow, but would I have to carry around hefty transformer or something with me everywhere I go in order to do it?
    Is it worth the bother?

    two problems...

    1. The PAL/ NSTC thing... yes you will need to get a vcr that converts NSTC to PAL...

    2. You will need to buy an adapter for the plugs... most come witha built in thing that lowers the voltage to North American standards...

Apart from that... when I used mine in England, it worked fine... just couldn't watch it on tv...
